Chief Jack Watring welcomes you to the
University of Missouri Police Department!
Welcome to the University of Missouri Police Department. Our staff consists of 50 full-time employees, which includes 35
sworn officers that
carry university, city and county commissions of arrest. In addition, 30 part-time Campus Safety Officers supplement our security
services across campus. The entire department operates under the philosophy of Community Policing that entails a partnership between the
community
and our agency. The University of Missouri Police Department's mission includes ensuring a peaceful quality of life and supporting a safe learning
environment.
Since the 1960's the University of Missouri Police department has progressed from watch personnel to a full service police agency. Some of the services
provided include a crime prevention and investigative unit that work closely with all members of the University to ensure the campus remains as safe as
possible. Officers in this section present various crime prevention programs, self-defense training, evaluate crime statistics and oversee the student cadet
program.
The University of Missouri Police Department recently acheived accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation
for Law
Enforcement Agencies, Inc (CALEA). During this process, the department established policies, procedures and directives that ensures
that
this agency has a professional
level of policing by meeting local expectations and national standards.
The University of Missouri Police Department web site offers many opportunities for students, faculty, staff, and visitors to provide input to the
police department for improving our services to the university community. Through our site you can register a lost item, fill out a crime survey, or give feedback
regarding the campus community. In addition, you can view the many services that our department provides. For more information explore our website or email
