This release is done in an effort to keep the campus community informed about crimes near the University campus so community members can make informed choices about their safety. The department and the media received the following media release from the City of Columbia Police Department in reference to an armed robbery that occurred near campus:
TYPE OF INCIDENT: ARMED ROBBERY
CPD CASE#:2008- 15768
DATE & TIME: December 3, 2008 9:21 pm
INCIDENT LOCATION: Fifth and Rollins
SUSPECT DESCRIPTION: 6’2” black male in his early 20’s, medium build, gray hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, and a blue Kansas City Royals ball cap. Armed with a silver handgun.
VICTIMS: Three females ages 19, 19, and 20
DETAILS OF INCIDENT: The suspect approached the three victims on foot as they were about to enter a vehicle. He produced a silver handgun, pointed it at the victims, and demanded property. The suspect took purses from two of the victims and fled the scene on foot. A search of the area was conducted by several officers and a police K9 but the suspect was not located.
The victims were not injured.
