Background

The Lost & Found for the University of Missouri-Columbia campus is part of the University Police Department .

In 1996, we set up a computer database for keeping track of property and callers. We handled over 3,000 items of found property and handled calls for 574 lost items.
In 1997, we experienced an increase in found property (3718 items) and in calls for lost items (801).
Since then, our volume of incoming lost items has remained nearly steady and we continue to field over 800 calls for lost items each year from individuals nationwide.

We receive items almost daily from various buildings and departments throughout campus, as well as from local businesses and individuals. The items are then logged into the database as quickly as current volume allows. For answers to other questions, try our FAQ's page, or mail us at: umcpolicelostfound@missouri.edu.

Our efforts are guided by policy and procedure for the University of Missouri-Columbia campus (see: [The Business Policy and Procedure Manual 6:100]. All lost items found on campus are to be turned in the to the Lost & Found at MUPD as a central repository for our campus.

We make every effort to identify and contact the owner of all property that has been turned in to us. Please be sure that your address and phone number are accurate in the University records. You can check and change your address at the following site:STAR-MU. Students, see also:M-Book for details about University Policy and the consequences of not keeping your information updated!

We can't return your property unless we know how to reach you!
