FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS |
Below you will find some of the more commonly asked
questions concerning the Lost & Found. Feel free to e-mail us if you have any other
questions not answered here.
1.Where are you located?
We are part of the University
Police Dept (MUPD) located at 901 Virginia Avenue. This is at
the intersection of Virginia Avenue and Hospital Dr. We are on the southeast corner of the
new parking garage.
2.How long are items kept that have
been turned in to the Lost & Found?
We follow policy and procedure for the University of Missouri-Columbia
campus
(The Business Policy and Procedure Manual 6:100) and keep items for
at least sixty days after they are turned in to the Lost & Found. This
gives the owner
sufficient time to claim the item.
3.What happens to the items after
the sixty day period?
At the end of each quarter, items from three to six months old are cleared
out. All sellable items are sent to the Surplus Property Warehouse where
they are sold at auction. Contact the Surplus Property Warehouse at (573)
882-5053 for information about the auctions. For sanitary purposes,
items such as clothes, shoes, and bedding are disposed.
4.How do I locate a lost item?
Try our Lost Items
Page for helpful information.
5.What do I do with an item I
found?
If you find an item on University of Missouri-Columbia campus, you are
required to turn it in (see
The Business Policy and Procedure Manual 6:100). Visit our Found Items Page for
helpful information.
6.If I report an item that I've
lost or found, will my name be in the newspaper?
No, absolutely not! All Lost & Found records are kept confidential and
your personal information will not be released to anyone outside of MUPD
without your permission. Your name will not appear in the next
edition of the Maneater.
