STATEMENT ON
HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION:
Around 12:24 p.m.,
Friday, Jan. 7, 2005,
the University of Missouri-Columbia Police Department (MUPD) responded to a
vehicle fire on the third level of the Maryland Avenue Garage. While the fire
was being extinguished a deceased male subject was located in the trunk of the
vehicle.
MUPD with the assistance of the Columbia Police Department and
Columbia Fire Department began conducting a death investigation of the
incident. After the Medical Examiner arrived, it was discovered that the victim
had apparently been stabbed with a knife to the chest area.
We need the public’s assistance with the following:
1. A
person of interest described as a male 6’ – 6’2”
wearing some type of mask possible a painters mask or drywall type mask in the
area of the Maryland Avenue Garage on Jan. 7.
2. Identifying
a time frame of a white Honda Accord, Missouri License 608-HYK, parked in a
driving lane in the northwest corner of level 3 of the Maryland Avenue Parking
Garage.
Due to the ongoing investigation, more information and cannot
be released at this time.
Around 6 p.m.,
Thursday, Jan. 7, MUPD Chief Jack Watring called for assistance from the Mid
Missouri Major Case Squad with this investigation. The Mid Missouri Major Case
Squad has been activated and will be assisting with this investigation.
The victim is identified as Jeong H Im, Date of Birth
12/15/32, 72 years of age, Korean male living in Columbia Missouri.
