Office (573) 882-5923 Cellular (573) 999-1979

HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION (Update 6):

The University of Missouri-Columbia is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect or suspects who committed the Jan. 7 homicide of Jeong H. Im in the Maryland Avenue parking garage. Phone calls should be directed to 573-882-7203 or, if a caller wishes to remain anonymous, they may call Crime Stoppers at 573-875-TIPS. Revenue generated from parking violations will fund the reward.

"The University Police Department continues to actively investigate this case and has seven members of the department working full time on this case," Captain Brian Weimer said. "We continue to receive assistance from the Missouri State Highway Patrol and other agencies. The Mid Missouri Major Case Squad provided great assistance with this case and we are grateful for the extended time they spent working on this case."

To date, more than 185 leads have been followed. Investigators continue to interview people and potential physical evidence continues to be processed. MUPD is still looking for the identification of a person of interest described as follows:

The person is believed to have been carrying some type of gas can. The person of interest is a male, between 6 feet and 6 feet 2 inches in height, possibly wearing some type of painter's or drywall mask in the area of Maryland Avenue garage on Jan. 7.

Anyone who saw this person or a person carrying a gas can in the area of Maryland Avenue garage on Jan. 7 is asked to call 573-882-7203 or Crime Stoppers at 573-875-TIPS.

In addition to investigating the case, members of the department have been meeting with campus groups and individuals to discuss security on campus garages. Members of the department also have met with campus groups to answer questions and provide safety tips to interested parties. Campus safety is the highest priority of the University Police Department.
