Up-Date on Death Investigation at Laws Hall

The University Police Department continues its death investigation into the unresponsive male subject found outside Laws Hall Sunday, Feb. 26, about 11:41 a.m.

The male is identified as:

• Kyle Masterson
• 04/07/1987
• Freshman Student at the University of Missouri – Columbia
• Resident of Laws Hall

At this time, the investigation shows that Masterson died from an apparent suicide when he fell from the eighth floor balcony on the east side of Laws Hall. An apparent suicide note was found in Masterson’s room.

Final determination on the cause of death will be made by the medical examiner at a later time.
