At approximately 1:36 a.m., Sunday, August 13, the University of Missouri-Columbia Police Department received a report of a vehicle accident on MO 763 south of Rollins Street. Officers responded to the area where they found the driver of the vehicle and a passenger partially ejected from the vehicle and unconscious. Both the driver and passenger were transported by ambulance personnel to the Health Science Center where the passenger later died from injuries sustained in the accident. As of 2:20 p.m., this date, the driver was listed in critical condition at the Health Science Center.

This was a one vehicle accident involving a car striking a tree. The accident is still under investigation and further details can not be released at this time. The identities of the driver and passenger are not being released at this time until next of kin are notified. There is no indication that occupants are students of the University of Missouri.
