Sex Offense Investigation

The University of Missouri Police Department (MUPD) is currently investigating a sex offense that is reported to have happened in the Virginia Avenue Garage on campus.  At 3:49 a.m., March 10, MUPD received a report of a potential sex offense that occurred at approximately 1 a.m., March 10 in the Virginia Avenue Garage.  This report was not made by the victim of the offense.  The department immediately began gathering information and attempting to make contact with the victim of the offense. 

The suspect in the offense is described as a white male with brown hair.  The suspect was not known to the victim at the time of the offense.  No additional information is available at this time.  More information on this will be released as it becomes available.

MUPD requests anyone with information on this incident or a similar incident to contact Sergeant Shawn Spalding at 573-882-5928.

The department offers the following tips in an effort to prevent future attacks.  It is important to remember with these tips that you can follow all of them properly and still be the victim of a crime.  In no way is to imply the victim of this offense did anything improper. 

  1. Walk in well lit areas always being mindful of your surroundings.
  2. Try to walk in groups of two or more.
  3. Report any suspicious activities or individuals to MUPD.
  4. Take advantage of self defense classes.
