Information on DWI Saturation:
In an effort to provide a safe environment for the students, visitors, and citizens of Columbia during graduation weekend, the University of Missouri Police Department will be conducting a DWI saturation around the University of Missouri campus from Friday May 15th at 11:00 p.m. through Saturday May 16th at 3:00 a.m. This saturation will provide additional officers to supplement regular patrol efforts in an attempt to focus on alcohol related traffic offenses thus providing a safe environment for the students, their parents/family members, and guests in town for graduation activity events and celebrations. Captain Weimer of the University Police Department stated, “Students have worked hard to achieve their educational goals and we are putting forth extra effort to ensure that they and their guests can safely celebrate their accomplishments.”
While the department collaborates with other campus and community resources to provide educational information and resources to prevent drunk driving, the department also realizes the importance of enforcing the negative consequences of making poor choices when it comes to alcohol and drunk driving. Individuals who are choosing to go out and drink alcohol are encouraged to have a sober individual with them to ensure they get home safely. These arrangements should be made before one goes out rather than after the fact when their decisions may be influenced by alcohol.
In addition to the University Police Department, Officers from the Columbia Police and Boone County Sheriff’s Department will assist by providing extra officers in the area. This collaboration between local law enforcement agencies shows the commitment by the agencies to keep our community safe and share departmental resources.
